As the weather cools and the leaves start to change, our pets enjoy the crisp air and extra playtime outside just as much as we do. But with every new season comes new risks to watch for. Here are a few tips to help keep your furry family members safe this fall:
🍫 Watch out for Halloween treats
Chocolate, sugar-free candy (especially xylitol), and raisins can all be toxic to pets. Keep candy bowls and trick-or-treat bags out of paw’s reach, and remind kids not to share with their four-legged friends.
👻 Costumes & decorations
Dressing up your pet can be adorable, but make sure costumes fit comfortably, don’t restrict breathing or movement, and don’t include small pieces that could be chewed off. Keep cords, candles, and glow sticks out of reach as well.
❄️ Antifreeze alert
Cooler weather often means people are topping off their car’s antifreeze — but just a small sip can be deadly for pets. Always clean up spills right away and store containers securely.
🍄 Beware of mushrooms & yard hazards
Many wild mushrooms that pop up in the fall can be toxic. Supervise dogs outdoors, and discourage them from eating plants or fungi you can’t identify.
🐾 Senior pets need extra care
The cooler months can make arthritis flare up. If your pet seems stiff, slows down on walks, or struggles with stairs, let us know — we can help keep them comfortable and active.
